Junior (2004-05) -- Murphy was MU's second leading scorer at 74.68. He began the season with a second place finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate, shooting six-under, leading MU to a team victory. He had another top 10 finish, placing ninth at the Northern Intercollegiate, shooting even par. His 12 place finish at The Cardinal Intercollegiate showed his consistency. He began the spring, placing eight in the one-round Bethune-Cookman tournament. Murphy shot par of better in all three rounds of the Naples Intercollegiate, placing 11th. He led MU with a 15th place finish at the El Diablo Intercollegiate, Sophomore (2003-04) -- Murphy became one of Marquette's most reliable golfers in his sophomore year. He had MU's second best season average, at 75.18. He led Marquette at the Hoosier Intercollegiate, firing a final-round 70 to finish 16th at six-over. He again led Marquette at the Cardinal Intercollegiate with a 229. He had Marquette's best score in the first three tournaments he played in during the spring. Shooting a 228 at the Big Red Classic, he placed 29th. A 22nd place finish at the El Diablo Intercollegiate was MU's best placing. He shot a five-over, 221, in the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate to pace MU again. Freshman (2002-03) -- Murphy has been Marquette's most valuable freshman through the first half of the season. He leads the newcomers in scoring at 76.27. He led MU in scoring at the Blue Demon Invitational, placing eighth. He fired a nine-over 225. He shot par twice this season, once at the Blue Demon and once again at the Ironhorse. At the Ironhorse, he had his second best finish of the season, a 25th place. In Marquette's win at the Kauai Collegiate Cup, he shot a career best, two-over to finish in a tie for fifth. He struggled down the stretch, placing 40th in his best finish in final three starts. Prior to Marquette -- A four time letterwinner, Murphy was captain of high school golf team. In high school, Murphy won 33 of 38 career starts. He also was a regional champion in 2002 and sectional champion in 2001 and 2002. He set a state record with a five-under, 279 at the regional event. He was selected first-team all state as a senior, was conference player of the year as a junior and was all region as a sophomore. Murphy was also on the debate team in high school.
