Marquette and Wis.-Milwaukee Meet for the 17th Time Wednesday

The undefeated Marquette women's soccer team hosts city rival Wis.-Milwaukee and BYU this week at Valley Fields to close out its five-match homestand. The No. 25 Golden Eagles collide with No. 24 Wis.-Milwaukee on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m., and take on BYU at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The game against Wis.-Milwaukee will be broadcast on Time Warner Sports, Channel 32, on a tape delay basis. Fans can also listen live on the web via WMUR.

For the second straight season Time Warner Sports Channel 32 will broadcast Marquette men's and women's soccer and volleyball matches. Time Warner Sports will produce eight total contests during the fall season.

Cusick Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll; MU Checks in at No. 25 in the Soccer America Poll

Following back-to-back victories over Ohio State and Samford, Marquette women's soccer senior defender Shannon Cusick was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll announced Monday by league officials. It is Cusick's first honor of the season. Also, the Golden Eagles (3-0) checked in at No. 25 in the latest Soccer America poll released Monday.

With two second-half goals from junior Kelly Wepking and sophomore Julia Victor, the Marquette women's soccer team shutout Samford, 2-0, in the finale of the Milwaukee Cup Sunday afternoon.

Senior Shannon Cusick, junior Chelsey Turner and sophomore Lauren Acree each earned a spot on the all-tournament team for their stellar play as MU improved to 3-0 on the season.

Golden Eagles Outlast Ohio State in Overtime

Sophomore Lauren Acree's golden goal 61 seconds into overtime gave the Marquette women's soccer team a hard-fought victory over Ohio State Friday afternoon at Valley Fields. Freshman Danielle Martens knocked in the equalizer with six seconds remaining in regulation to send into overtime. Acree was credited with the assist.

With the win the Golden Eagles move to 2-0 on the season, while the Buckeyes fall to 0-2.

Marquette Continues Homestand with Milwaukee Cup

The Marquette women's soccer team hosts Ohio State and Samford this weekend at Valley Fields for games two and three of its five-match homestand. The Golden Eagles collide with Ohio State on Friday, Aug. 29 at 3:30 p.m., and take on Samford at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The games are a part of the ninth-annual Milwaukee Cup.

Two Marquette Students to win a new Smart Car

Marquette Athletics announced Saturday that two students will win a blue or gold Marquette-themed Smart Car as part of the 2008-09 Fanatics Rewards Program. The Smart Cars are courtesy of Bergstrom Automotive and have a retail value of about $17,000 each.

The Marquette women's soccer team officially opens the 2008 season when it plays host Loyola (Ill.) Sunday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m., at Valley Fields. The season opener is part of a five-match homestand through Sept. 6. The first 500 fans at the match on Sunday will receive a free 2008 Marquette soccer magnetic schedule.

Over 700 kids of all ages took part in Marquette soccer's 2nd Annual Fest Fest, which took place Saturday at Valley Fields. Participants were treated to free food and games and free admission to watch the MU women's soccer team defeat Wisconsin 2-1 in an exhibition match and the men's soccer Blue vs. Gold intrasquad scrimmage.
